Silence is Invincible

Posted by: Eric Mulford | Comments (0)

Silence is …

I recently had a sinus infection that made it impossible for me to talk. It gave me time to think about the benefits of silence.

In professions that require strong verbal skills most of us have a tendency to talk too much. Rather than addressing the real questions and getting to the point we talk endlessly about things that never entered the head of the client.

In the sea of people that you will encounter in business only about 17% of the population require more information. Even for them they want to know only what they ask. The other 83% have no real desire to hear endless dumps of information. They are almost turned off by such displays. For them information is like food a little is good, but too much is not necessarily better.

Sometimes talking too much is covering up for personal fears: fear of rejection, fear of revealing a real lack of knowledge, fear of questions, fear of confrontation, and so on. None of these things advance your agenda. Operating out of fear is never a good thing.

“God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and a sound mind.” -1 Timothy 2:7

Power, love and a sound mind may be demonstrate by silence, instead of talking endlessly when there is no need for it. A sound mind gives power in any situation.

We live in a world full of noise. So much so that it has become hard for us to listen. Noise and hurry consume massive amounts of mental energy. Listening restores that energy. It is impossible to listen when you spend all of your time talking. Talking. Just draining yourself of the valuable mental energy.

A sound mind is full of energy so it may think clearly. When a situation presents itself a sound mind is ready it think clearly about a solution. A sound mind is invincible.

Maybe spending some time in silence is beneficial. A day a month? Hours a week? Moments in a day? I don’t think it really matters. The key is to spend some time in silence.

Silence is Invincible

Gaining strength from silence will help you develop the power of invincibility. Talking crowds your thoughts and inhibits the development of clear thinking. Clear and accurate thinking leads to powerful thoughts. Powerful thinking will make you invincible. When you think beyond your competition you win…every time!

“Silence is golden” and “still waters run deep”…there is a reason we have those sayings. They are so true! A day of silence reminded me of just how important silence can be.

Invincible? – Change This First

Invincible – Physiology

It is nearly impossible to be depressed with your head held up high, shoulders back, breathing deeply, and a smile on your face. Take control of your body and you will change your attitude.

I used this with a student when I taught school. He was really struggling in everything. When he walked into the room you could tell he was having trouble. I caught him doing something that was very dangerous to the rest of the students and he had to serve detention. I was going to work detention. It was time for me to apply what I knew about physiology. I stopped him at the door. “You’re not allowed to enter the room like that” I told him. “Now go back out the door. This time walk in as though you are an honor student.” I didn’t tell him how an honor student walked – he already knew. He knew how to adjust his physiology to what I had asked. It took a few tries, but eventually he got it. He walked in head up, shoulders straight and sat upright in the chair. This was the first time I ever saw that from him. It wouldn’t be the last.
I “required” him to do that all day, every day for the next three weeks. During that time his grades improved, his discipline issues were nearly resolved and his attitude improved. Changing his physiology changed him.

Invinciblity is a state and you can achieve it by making a few slight changes. The easiest change to make that will result in immediate improvements is to change you physiology. The rest of your being will get line up with the changes.

What is your physiology telling you? What is it telling the world? Sometimes a dry spell can be traced to what the world is seeing in your body language. Tiny changes in your physiology can help you create a state of invincibility.

To Your Success,
Eric

The Ability Expander

Every man has more ability than he thinks he has, more than he ever uses ordinarily. Under extreme pressure, at the risk of life or threat to someone we love, any of us would find the ability we didn’t know we had. We discover that we are far more capable than we dreamed possible. Extraordinary ability is found in the ordinary man.

Some men’s ability lies so deep that they are never at their best except in a great crisis. Then the giant in them is unleashed, and great powers, of which they themselves were ignorant, are unlocked. They are like the lump of carbon that under extreme pressure becomes a precious diamond.

Sometimes a promotion to new responsibilities will reveal qualities never before seen. Not that those qualities never existed, but that the pressure to perform has never been there. The new responsibility has drawn out of him the needed ability that he may have never found without the opportunity. Never sidestep a responsibility. You may be throwing away your opportunity to expand your ability and thus not achieve the things you were meant to achieve.

It has been said that man only uses a fraction of his brain. Is it possible that man also only uses a fraction of his abilities? If it were possible to invent a machine to increase your ability it could command almost any price. Yet it is possible to do this simply by thinking right, and using the opportunities that are in front of you.

Even slight changes in your thinking will make a drastic difference in your outcomes. But positive thinking that doesn’t move you to prosperous action is nothing more than pointless dreaming. Real positive thinking will always change your behavior.

Right where you are, no matter what your environment, whatever your disadvantages or handicaps, you have been given enough ability to make you a success in whatever you desire to do. You have all you need to lift you to heights of success you never dreamed possible. Expand your ability; do everything that will enable you to stretch your spring to its limit, and you will be amazed at what you can accomplish.

Why Do You Sell?

Posted by: Eric Mulford | Comments (0)

Why Do You Sell?

A sales trainer forum posted this question asking for answers. Amazingly enough there were very few responses compared to other questions that have been asked.

I love this question! Sales drive the bus of any economy. If the economy is to go in a positive direction it is the responsibility of the sales staff of every company to produce more. Everything that ever happens is the direct result of a sale taking place. Communities are being forced to cut their budget because their revenues are low. Revenues are low because sales are down. Turn around the sales and the economy turns around. Who wouldn’t want to be a part of this tremendous opportunity.

I could go on and on…and usually do. I begin training sessions with a speech similar to the statement above. I love being in sales and as a trainer I get to “share the love.”

I love to sell! I do it. I coach it. I practice it. I listen to it being done. I watch it every where I go. I read about it. I attend training on how it is done. I teach it. I train it. I write about it almost every day. It is my passion!

I had a Real Estate person show up to sell me a house once. Her license plate on her car said “LV2SELL”. I asked her if that stood for “Live to Sell” or “Love to Sell”. She said it didn’t make a difference. I didn’t buy from her! It does make a difference.

Living to sell means that is how I make a living. Loving to sell means this is my passion. I’ll take passion over pay any day. Whatever you do, ask yourself the same question “why do you _______?” Because you must pursue your passions. Passions leads to satisfaction. Passions leads to fulfillment. Passions lead to your success.
